The Walk for Wilai is a significant fundraising event for The Wilai Foundation Ltd which is a registered Australian charity that seeks to raise awareness of statelessness (the consequences and solutions) and offer support to stateless, orphaned girls in Thailand and Myanmar. You can read more about us on our website: www.wilaifoundation.org.au
The establishment of the Wilai Foundation Ltd. in 2016 was inspired by Wilai, a young girl living in Thailand who was both an orphan and stateless. The Wilai Foundation has since grown, offering direct support to several girls living in similar situations and actively working to obtain citizenship for them.
The Walk for Wilai will follow the Australian Camino, from Portland, Victoria, to Penola, South Australia. These two towns connect two significant places in the life of Saint Mary MacKillop, our Australian Saint. The first few days will include clifftop and beach walks, as we follow the coastline from Portland to Port MacDonnell, then inland and north to Penola via Mt Gambier. The Walk for Wilai will measure over 200 km, averaging a daily walk of 20 km.

Many veteran Camino pilgrims have identified three phases experienced along the way, sometimes in sequence, sometime at the same time. Physical, psychological and spiritual, and this is not surprising!
We have prepared a list of all the essential items.
You will need a travel bag, large enough to carry clothing, toiletries etc. (This luggage will be transferred between accommodations by bus.) You will also need a small day back pack to carry on the walk.
